The following comment is related to the entry dated 7 AUGUST 2024 in the 2024-2.pdf file above.
In early summer 2011, Theresa and Jean-Paul asked me for rides to go to his doctor (Orleans, Ontario). One day, during one of those rides, Theresa sitting in the front passenger seat turned to me and started to criticize someone in the family, who had walked away from a marriage and left her children with the former husband.
It hit a nerve, these people never had anything good to say about anyone . . . Fvck it >> Immediately I said >> you shouldn’t criticize because you and Jean-Paul (who was sitting in the back) abandoned Mark on the porch when he was 13 with a green plastic bag.
Then without thinking “on a roll” >> I imitated with a whimpering/desperate voice >> “Mo-om please open the door . . . . mo-om mo-om I’m sorry . . . please mo-om please please mo-om . . . . mo-oooom” I never asked Mark how long he pleaded – I know he was terrified. I never told him.
IN the car, they went quiet. The atmosphere was thick. It was satisfying – there you go. They never asked for a ride again.
As time went by, I would often give rides to people and these people would often say at the end of the trip with a surprised look >> “Gee . . . you’re a good driver . .. wow” First time, ok whatever but this kept happening. We are talking small rides and big surprise looks. Weird.
Then one day, someone let the cat out of the bag –> Reason why Theresa and Jean-Paul didn’t ask me for rides anymore? well . . . they had told everyone how much of a bad driver I was. They made up a story that we had almost had an accident thus why they NEVER again wanted to ride with me.
I most likely freaked them out when I imitated the youth Mark pleading for them to open the door on a cold Fall night 1978, a school night. Nowhere to go.
